Summer Programs 2016

We love summer programs!

Summer Programs are a *fantastic* way to cement some of the knowledge and skills that your child is working on in a small and supervised setting that will guarantee a positive experience.  Summer groups allow us to see your child in a different setting (ie with other kids), and often that generates a clearer picture for us of what your child needs and how we can help your family.    Your child gets to have a bit more fun in therapy, and you get to save a bit of money!   It’s a win-win-win situation.

We have a number of summer program ideas!  For some of these groups, we have identified dates/times and the therapist who will be running it.  For others, we are waiting to see who is interested, and what weeks might work for them.  So please contact sue@pathwaystherapy.ca  to put your name down for more updates on any of these groups.  thanks!

Typing Boost Program!

All ages and stages

 $65/hour “OT group treatment”

This group runs once a week (usually every Wednesday) all summer for 1 hour in the early evening.  An exact time will be found that works among the interested families.  Children can miss any 2 weeks of the 8 summer weeks (billed for 6 weeks). Typing instruction is individualized to your child’s level, but the group just makes it more fun!  Mastery of touch typing requires ongoing practice, even if your kid has done a program but could benefit from a refresher, this could work for you.  Touch typing ability is an incredible gift you can provide for your child’s future!

Girl Friends!

Week/time to be arranged, 1 hr/day

OT:Tara Embrey

ages 7-10

$325

We were inspired to start this group based on the number of girls we are seeing that are struggling with similar friend issues and their sense of self.  This is a chance for girls to realize they are not alone!  Everyday will include sensory time and an activity that teaches about and leads discussion into a friendship skill or common issue.  We will follow this with an empowerment (self-esteem building) activity for the girls.   Parents might find they connect too, using the ‘waiting room effect’ during this group.  We will pull together a week and time of day based on interested girls’ availabilities.

Regulation Zone

week TBA 1 hour/day

OT:TBD

ages 5-8  or ages 9 – 13

 $325

If your child has benefited from the Zones of Regulation (R) curriculum in their individual sessions then you understand the incredible helpfulness of this approach in managing big emotions! This is an introductory group, but would also be good for review.  One the best aspects of covering the Zones in a group is the stories the kids bring to the group.  Hearing similar stories happening to another child is a really powerful self-acceptance builder!   We will learn about the zones, triggers and strategies for ‘getting back to green’.  This group will use a lot of movement-based activities and food activities imbeded with the Zones concepts.  We will set a week based on availability families that are interested.  Please forward this one to a friend – the Zones program is helpful for so many different kids!

Calling all ‘selective’ eaters!  This group is based on a leading approach for picky eating called SOS therapy (Sequential Oral Sensory).  It is fun and encourages a slow and systematic approach to acceptance of new foods.  Parents are also welcome to attend to increase their understanding of the approach and how to work with their child at home.  Every day parents will leave with their own parent tip sheet!  This group is appropriate for kids without chewing/swallowing issues who are very selective in their eating, usually due to a very finely tuned oral sensory system.  An initial visit or a phone screening prior to the group will be required to ensure group fit if your child is not attending Pathways Therapy already.  One food goal for each child can be incorporated into this group.

Printing or Cursive Intensive

Week TBA
1hour/day
All ages and stages
$325
This group is for all ages that are looking to work on lower case letter formation, letter sizing, and spacing — key aspects of print legibility. We will bring out our favourite letter formation activities, including metronome, letter pieces, therapy putty, white boards, blind folds, terrarium, weights, etc… We will aim to recruit enough volunteers to have 1:1 during this group so the kids can rotate through stations during the hour and work at their level on either printed letters or cursive letters, under the supervision of an experienced Occupational Therapist.  Individual goals can be set for your child if they have been seen by one of our OTs individually prior to this group.  Please contact Sue if you are interested in this group.  We will do our best to match kids by age and stage for maximum positive connection in this group.  The week will be based on children’s availability.
